Tonight was the night that we all have been waiting for (referring to the Edmonton-based metalhead double true followers… huh, guess that’s just me). Thrash metal legends, Megadeth, finally return to Edmonton after thirteen whole months, this time with Slayer! Trust me when I say it was well worth the wait.

Megadeth is still alive and well! Dave Mustaine seems to have found a somewhat stable lineup and has been hittin’ up the studios and riling up the head-banging crowds, making their presence noticed.

Chickenfoot… coming soon! The band is a supergroup consisting of Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony (ex-Van Halen) on vocals and bass respectively, Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) on drums, and Joe Satriani (solo) on guitar. The name of the debut album  is… (drum roll)… Chickenfoot. It is to be released on June 5 in Europe and June 9 in the States. Most people think the band name is plain awful. However, they surely won’t be thinking that about the music.

June 23, 2009 is the scheduled release date of the tenth studio album of the legendary progressive metal band, Dream Theater. The album is entitled Black Clouds & Silver Linings and consists of six songs (four epics and two singles as described by drummer Mike Portnoy). Personally, I have found that the quality of music in a Dream Theater album is often reflected by the quality of the album art. In this case: absolute beauty.

Awesome! The legendary progressive metal band, Dream Theater, is still making some killer music. I have high hopes for the upcoming album. Based on the song, I do not think it will be near as good as Images and Words or Scenes From a Memory, but so far it’s looking rather solid. Black Clouds & Silver Linings is to be released on June 23, 2009. I’ll put out a review ASAP, but for now…

UPDATE: Sorry guys the original post of the song as been removed due to a copyright claim, we will hafta do with this.

Put together a guitar virtuoso (Satriani) and the beat of Red Hot Chili Peppers (drummer, Chad Smith) along with former members of the legendary Van Halen (vocalist Hagar, bassist Mikey) and you’ve got one hell of a supergroup: Chickenfoot.

Three tracks have been released so far, and I personally think they’re great! But don’t just take my word on it, have a listen.

The eponymous album is set to be released on June 5 in Europe, and June 9 in the United States. Expect a review in the near future.

It goes on, and on, and on… It’s Heaven and Hell! This is no new band; it is the legendary Black Sabbath/Dio combo! However, The Devil You Know is the first album released under this name (I think the name of this album plays on that fact).  The album release date is set as April 28, 2009, but I (as well as many others) managed to get an early listen. And although it’s been awhile since the boys have been in the studio together, I can assure you that they’re back and bringin’ the heavy!

Queensrÿche‘s 10th studio album (if I recall correctly) is to be released on March 31, but I managed to get an early listen of it. American Soldier is a concept album; an album in which every song contributes to an overall idea (in this case, it’s likely something to do with war… probably). This collection of songs does just as the album cover suggests and puts you, the listener, in the boots of an American soldier.

In today’s world, change happens so fast and so often it’s hard to keep up. It’s only a matter of time before you realize that you’ve been left behind in the dust. This is true for every single one of us. At some point in our lives we all have been (or will be) alone in the middle of nowhere with only the tracks of others to follow. Try all you want to find direction, but you’ll only come to find that you’re powerless in this world of transition. But don’t stress over it. It’s best to just accept the fact that _____ has changed…

In the case of this song, the woman has changed. But don’t let it be limited to just that. You can basically say everything has changed, from games to people… Every single one of us is a victim of changes.

Up the Irons?

Up the Irons?

In the music scene, the metal genre has been wrongfully assigned such traits as aggressive, noisy, satanic, etc. Really… satanic? I recently watched a live performance from the legendary metal band, Iron Maiden. This was a direct quote from the iconic frontman, Bruce Dickinson, just before their performance of Revelations in their live album/DVD, Live After Death.

“…you might remember on The Number of the Beast album we got all this crap from people about being what was it, devil-worshippers and all that kind of stuff and everything over here. Are Iron Maiden satanic? The answer is Read the rest of this entry »
